to the website of the first annual Kerrytown®
District BookFest, to be held on Sunday, September
14, 2003 at the Farmer's and Artisans Market
on Detroit Street in Ann Arbor from 11 a.m.
- 5 p.m.
We will feature authors, storytellers, publishers,
bookbinders, book artists, book illustrators,
poets, letterpress printers, wood engravers,
calligraphers, papermakers, and booksellers,
both new and used & rare. We have 80 booths
of exhibitors and numerous presenters, discussing
topics from culinary history and publishing
to early printed maps to getting started as
a writer.
The goal of the BookFest is to create a colorful
mix of regional book related exhibitors, events,
and speakers in one location on a single day.
Visitors will watch as hand bookbinders demonstrate
how to bind and do simple book repairs, papermakers
demonstrate hand papermaking, and a paper marbler
shows how to turn swirling colors into the shape
of peacock feathers. There will even be an opportunity
for visitors to print a commemorative bookmark
themselves with an antique letterpress printing
machine.
Old and rare book appraisers, award winning
authors, storytellers, calligraphers, book artists,
booksellers, and even a presentation from a
local printing firm that printed some of the
Harry Potter books will be part of the festivities.
Good food and music will also add to the atmosphere
of the first ever book festival of its kind
held in Ann Arbor.
